ACTIVITIES

NGO Activities : This organization became active immediately after its registration in the year 1994. Initially individual matters were taken like the famous Madhukant Shukla Case and the Ranjana Murder Case in which this organization actively collaborated with the Central Bureau of Investigation at their request. However, with the passage of time, the focus started to shift to wider issues affecting a larger populace. It was thus that several problem areas affecting the populace at large were identified and resolution of the same sought either through Public Interest Litigation (in which this organization is a pioneer in its area of operation) or through communication with the Higher Official Channels. Environment and Forests are special concerns. Gradually the focus shifted even further. This organization started to veer towards legal literacy impartment and Rural litigation Entitlement. For this purpose a number of camps were held in various areas which gave excellent results and which process still continues. Problem areas regarding human rights in Punjab are another dominant issue though this organization opposes terrorism and separatism in principle. This organization is strictly non-political. However, now the scope of this organization has widened even further. It operates through scouts in the field and through occasional camps. These two serve to identify problem areas/gray areas which are interfering with the administration of the rights of the people. The focus is generally kept on wider issues and the individual cases are left to the smaller, local NGOs. After identification of these areas, this organization makes over these areas with constructive suggestions either to the United Nations High Commission for Human Rights Geneva under the 1503 Procedure where possible or it forwards its constructive suggestions to the highest discernible and approachable level of the bureaucracy administering these rights. Panels are set up periodically by this organization for the purpose. Shri Paramvir S. Narang is in the United States of America and is constantly attempting to disseminate this organization’s viewpoints at the international level wherever possible. The focus is now shifting even further to include opposition to gender bias which is a major problem in Himachal Pradesh and Punjab.
